I have a BS from the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware, an MS in International Development from Tulane University Law School, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. After successful internships at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, I joined the Business Advisory Services team at Grant Thornton in Philadelphia, PA. I left the corporate world to attend graduate school, and became the U.S. Program and Finance Manager for Mi Esperanza, an international nonprofit focused on creating pathways to economic and entrepreneurial opportunities for women in Honduras.
I moved to the Research Triangle and continued traveling back and forth to Honduras throughout the year with Mi Esperanza. Not long after moving to RTP, I recognized my desire to serve in the Triangle, and took a role as a fundraiser in the regional nonprofit community as a Relationship Manager for United Way of the Greater Triangle.
Seeking to understand nonprofits from a funder’s perspective, I became the Northern Piedmont Regional Director of the North Carolina Community Foundation. While at the NCCF, I supported affiliate community foundations in Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Vance, and Wake counties. I provided my boards and donor advised fundholders with a deep knowledge of nonprofits in the community and how each is addressing social issues to create sustainable systems level changes and attract financial and intellectual support. I also helped to identify opportunities for collaborative initiatives with other funders, nonprofits, local government, businesses, and faith-based communities.
I decided to jump back into the corporate world to work for Capitol Broadcasting Company, a family-owned communications company, on their Strategy and Business Development team. I am utilizing my economic and community development background at CBC by working with municipalities, companies and nonprofits across the state of North Carolina share their thought leadership on how they are creating a more connected, collaborative and innovative North Carolina.
